Costume jewellery can last for years if taken care of properly. Keep in mind that any cleaner that has ammonia, vinegar or any type of alcohol can ruin your costume jewellery. Try to "dry clean" it as often as possible, and "wet clean" when really necessary.
The most simple and basic way to maintain your jewellery and keep it ready to wear is to gently wipe off excess make up and skin oils after each wearing. Use a nub free, 100% cotton cloth and gently wipe the piece clean using only the soft pads of your fingers. Store in jewellery’s tissue or a soft bag before putting in jewelry box.
To help retard tarnish on sterling silver, wrap the piece in those jewellery's tissue paper and place it inside a plastic zip lock bag and seal.
Never use anything but 100% cotton as a polishing cloth since paper, polyester, and coarse fabrics often contain wood fibers or synthetics. These materials may impart fine scratches in the metal, especially on sterling silver.
Don’t forget to take off your fashion jewellery before bathing and sleeping. Swimming especially in salt water with costume jewellery is not recommended too.
We have not posted any blog recently as we were so busy coordinating shopping spree in August. We were crazy!!! We did few rounds of books spree and few rounds of Ralph Lauren spree. You cant imagine the amount we spent. Do not wish to look at the bill in September. Nevertheless, we were so excited and looking forward to the arrivals of our items. We bought the books mainly from UK and US. Wonderful selection and attractive price. By chance, we came across that Ralph Lauren is having additional 25% off, we think no further and did a mini spree. After that, Ralph Lauren had further discount of additional 40% till 5 September. Why wait right.....we did more rounds of shopping spree. Exciting month of us.
As mentioned last week, here are the pictures of lace braids and the French braids. Both my girls love braids after watching a Chinese drama. My helper’s skill is good right.
Hair styles are always an important aspect of women. Different hairstyles create different look. Today, braids are growing in popularity. Adults are kids are into it. I came from a school where it was compulsory for long hair girls to tie their hair into two basic braids. We were so against it in the past that many of us kept short hair rather than appearing like those ladies in period shows. Now, I am actually doing it for my girls as braids are neat, tidy and keep hair secured for a long time, that is able to withstand all their active activities.
There are so many ways of tying braids. Besides those common basic braids and French braids, I love lace braids too. As my girls have long fringe, my helper loves to tie lace braids to keep the hair off their face. I will try to take some photos and show it. There is this crown braids where my helper will twist and turn the braids at the back to form a crown. After which she will add a clip at the back to enhance the look. Some of the poorly taken photos are here. Pardon me and I will try to upgrade my photography skills.
I came across this article in a magazine and was deeply touched by the mum.
She met an accident and was paralyzed from neck down. She had to be bedridden for years and had to rely on others to take care of her. Can you imagine that….cant move your hands, cant walk, can’t take care and hug your kids, practically cant do anything on your own. Her husband, 2 kids and 2 helpers took turn to brush her teeth, feed her, dress her, and take care of her every need. With her strong determination and family support, she has learnt to pick up a skill, which is to paint using her mouth.
I was really moved that she didn’t gave up. She continues to live life to her fullest, bond with her kids and even stay well groomed always. I shared this story with my kids and reminded them to stop whining about what they don’t have. Kids of this age should learn to be contented and appreciate what they already had. Hopefully, they will understand…..
I remembered during my school days, we always made those friendship bands in different colours and patterns to give them to friends to appreciate and ‘confirmed’ them as friends. You can see that all wrists were decorated with colourful bands, not one but many. I thought this was a trend in my old days. I was surprised that my girl brought back those strings one day and said her friend has given to her and told her to make into friendship band. Lol. This trend has moved forward as my girl is only in primary school.
I no longer wear friendship bands now. What’s on my wrist is either bangles or bracelets and of course watch is a must.
An instant update for wrist is having one of the chunky bangles or tinkling sound charm bracelet. Bangles and bracelets have survived all tests of time so it is a must have for all seasons. As we know, accessories define style and occasions, we can match different pieces of accessories with the same outfit and create different look.
For a more casual and stylish look for an afternoon tea or shopping with friends, I would prefer to have bangle on. If you want to create that runaway look, you can put on different sizes of bangles together too.
To create that more girly, feminine girl next door look, I prefer to put on charm bracelets or if it is more a more formal occasion, it will be the diamond bracelets. The bracelet on the right is the bracelet that I share with my girls. Lovely to have girls to share my jewelleries, I can buy more without guilt. J
Accessories range from necklaces, earrings, bracelets, watches, belts, handbags and even shoes to match your everyday outfit or your exceptional outfit on extraordinary occasion.
The trend now is those big statement necklaces. I have seen it selling everywhere on retail and on online store. There are so many varieties to choose from and they don’t have to be expensive. Just remember, the chunkier, the funkier, the bigger, the better.
Oh dear, I am one person who is not able to carry chunky necklaces well. Nevertheless, I would still post some photos of my choices of the BIG statement necklaces. Because of the size and bold colours of the necklaces, match it with a plain top like a white button down shirt or simple dress. I prefer to go with solid (I just have a thing with white) to enhance the bold necklace.
